On the morning of September 25, the opening ceremony and initiation education of 2018 freshmen of Zhejiang Wanli College Sino-German College of Design and Communication was held in the academic lecture hall of West Campus.
Ding Yajun, Secretary of the General Party Branch of the College, Zhang Yiping, Vice President of the College, Prof. Stefan Waller, Head of the Department of Brand Communication, Prof. Ansgar Eidens, Head of the Department of Brand Design, Prof. Joachim Bongard, Head of the Department of Brand Management, all teachers of the Sino-German College, and all new students of the Class of 2018 attended the opening ceremony. The ceremony was hosted by Ms. Ding Yajun and translated by Ms. Desyoo.
At the beginning of the ceremony, Professor Yiping Zhang welcomed and congratulated the new students of 2018. He posed a question to the new students, "In such a cross-cultural learning atmosphere, what kind of person do you want to be?" In response, he made three expectations: first, to become an international person; second, to become a person who is ahead of the trend; and third, to become a person with humanistic care. He expects that after four years of study, all students will become a person who truly embraces the world.
Afterwards, Prof. Stefan Waller, Prof. Ansgar Eidens and Prof. Joachim Bongard, the three department heads of the University of Applied Sciences of Design and Communication in Hamburg, Germany, gave a presentation on the meaning of the profession, the city culture of Hamburg and the future training direction of the students.
Ms. Dai Siyu spoke as a representative of teachers. From her own experience of studying abroad, she talked about the importance of an international learning environment and pointed out that "going out" is the right way to open up learning. At the same time, she also encouraged students to put themselves in the right mindset, face the huge challenges they are going to face, and make progress in both professional skills and language learning.
At the end of the ceremony, Wu Yulin of Visual Communication (Sino-German 2+2) and Sun Yihan of Exhibition Economics and Management (Sino-German 2+2) spoke on behalf of the new students of the class of 2018, expressing their vision and outlook on university life, saying: "We should carry our dreams, keep our faith, and uphold the motto of Zhejiang Wanli College, 'Self-improvement, constant determination, and perseverance. The spirit of the school motto is 'self-improvement, perseverance, and diligence. In the days ahead, be modest in your studies, be friendly to others, and reap the fruits as well as the friendship."
