Development of "Intercultural Competence Development" course to promote the cultivation of international talents

Course Description:

The course "Intercultural Competence Development" aims to develop students' "intercultural awareness, intercultural learning strategies, intercultural language skills, intercultural linguistic knowledge and intercultural communication skills", and focuses on enhancing students' cultural inclusiveness and improving their overall humanistic and international communication skills. The course aims to guide students to: gain a systematic and comprehensive understanding of the main principles and theories of intercultural communication; apply the theoretical concepts of intercultural communication they have learned to explain intercultural communication phenomena that occur in daily life; examine their own and others' intercultural communication experiences through experiential learning, analysis and reflection; increase their sensitivity to cultural differences, enhance their intercultural awareness and critical thinking skills; and transcend cultures and countries in an intercultural environment. Students will learn to understand different individuals in an intercultural environment beyond culture and nationality, and increase their tolerance for different cultures; acquire effective intercultural communication skills and intercultural adaptation strategies, and enhance their cultural confidence and international communication skills.

Course Features:

The learning materials for the course "Intercultural Competence Development" were developed by a team of teachers from the Sino-German School of Design and Communication. The course team is based on the current situation of intercultural learning needs of students in our school and the university, and uses international cooperation research projects as a theoretical basis and practical support to develop the materials and the course.

Ms. Luo Jun, the course leader, is in charge of the research project "Resources for Interculturality in Chinese Higher Education" (RICH-Ed), which is a collaborative research project among eight universities in four EU countries (KU Leuven (Belgium), University of Durham (UK), University of Bologna (Italy), University of Nottingham Ningbo, Zhejiang Miles College, Hangzhou University of Electronic Science and Technology, Harbin Institute of Technology and Jilin University) from 2017-2021. Interculturality in Chinese Higher Education/ RICH-Ed) The core members of the EU RICH-Ed international research project team from eight universities at home and abroad are all famous experts in the field of intercultural communication in China and abroad, and the research results and expert team of this project provide favorable theoretical support and technical guarantee for the construction of the course of "Intercultural Competence Development". The successful development and construction of the "Intercultural Competence Development" course at the Sino-German School of Design and Communication is also one of the research results of the EU RICH-Ed international cooperation research project.
