Good news! Our teacher won the first prize in the university's 2019 Young Teacher Teaching Skills Competition!

Good news! Recently, Ms. Dai Siyu (Daisy) from the Sino-German College of Design and Communication, won the first prize in our 2019 Young Teacher Teaching Skills Competition and was recommended to represent our university in the Zhejiang Province Young Teacher Skills Competition!

This award-winning presentation lesson is a description of PART 2 of the IELTS Speaking test, which is the most difficult and heavily weighted part of the IELTS Speaking test. However, often students perform poorly in the speaking test and fail to reach their desired goal because of their weak language foundation and restricted thinking.

Therefore, Daisy took a "flipped classroom" approach to teaching the whole class. In the previous lesson, Daisy led the students to break down the topic of "people" into four mini-questions and asked them to solve them one by one in a focused manner. The main focus of this demonstration lesson was the answer to the last question -- why do you like this person?

Before the class, the students summarized the life of one of their favorite celebrities based on the video and text materials Daisy gave them, and identified the reasons for their success. Each of them drew a mind map to show how they thought about the topic of "person".

In the formal class, Daisy made full use of the students' existing knowledge by asking them to summarize one of their favorite celebrities in spoken language, directly applying the knowledge and expanding it in depth after the students finished speaking.The teaching model Daisy adopted was the BOPPPS teaching model, from introduction, to pre-test, participation, post-test and summary, guiding the students step by step to open their minds, relax and Daisy's teaching model is BOPPPS, from introduction, to pre-test, participation, post-test and conclusion, guiding students step by step to open their minds, relax and express themselves in order to achieve her teaching purpose about language and ability improvement.

At the end of the lesson, Daisy asked the students to use the mind maps they had drawn and apply them to a real IELTS speaking topic. Daisy's "flipped classroom" was well received by the experts and teachers at the school.
